  Mrs. Smith

Welcome back to another exciting year at Rock Ridge Elementary. I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself to those who don’t know me. I am one of the Moderate Needs Teachers sharing the caseload of students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades. This is my 20th year working at Rock Ridge Elementary, so you may have seen me around. I am starting my 32nd year of working with students with unique learning needs; some of those years have been at middle and high school before coming to Rock Ridge. On a personal note, I live in Castle Rock with my husband Randy. My twin daughters Alexa and Brianne, are both grown and working in their own careers. I received my BA in Special Education at the University of Iowa-Iowa City. My MA in Special Education is from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. I also have a multiple-subject credential from CA, which means I could teach regular education K-6, but I never have.

I look forward to meeting each of you and getting to know your student, or working with you again this year. I have already begun the process of reading IEPs and looking at needs, goals, and objectives written last year by the team. I collaborate weekly with the classroom teachers and will be in and out of the classroom. Some of the work your student and I do together will be in the classroom, especially working on the IB planner assignments; but most of the direct intensive academic work specified in their IEP will be in a smaller pull-out situation throughout the week.

Please know that you can get a hold of me best by email, I check it at least twice per day. If you want to talk with me please email me and I will find a time during the day that I am not scheduled to be working with kids. I look forward to a great school year!
