Happy New Year! With Christmas arriving only a few days after the beginning of winter break we had a lot of fun stuff happening at Rock Ridge.
First, we were privileged to have Douglas County School District’s interim Superintendent Mrs. Erin Kane join our 1st graders during our Snuggly Read-athon. This is an annual event where guest readers show up in their pajamas and read a story to the 1st graders, who are also in their pajamas. Lots of fun and laughs were had by all with insightful comments from 1st graders. Thank you all who participated in this wonderful event.
Next, the week before Christmas RRE PTO celebrated the holidays by recognizing the teachers each day of the week. From breakfast to lunch to coffee and desserts, wrapping up with a gift card giveaway, the staff felt appreciated and were thankful for the support. Thank you RRE PTO!!
Of course we had our “Ugly Sweater” day well represented by students and staff. Congratulations to our top three spirit supporters!
The holiday feeling continued with beautiful weather and then ending with our normal Colorado season: cold and snow. What a great way to kick off the break. With half of the year behind us we have a lot of fun and exciting things yet to come. Be sure to check our calendar on the website and download the RRE app.
One celebration I wanted to share is an example of where Rock Ridge spends money to invest in our students’ futures. Rock Ridge sponsors part of the cost for DC Downbeats, a program that promotes the development of instrumental music education for both Orchestra and Band. Along with the other DCHS feeder schools Rock Ridge helps pay for the instructor of the program. If your child is interested in learning an instrument, please visit the DC Downbeat Elementary Orchestra web page for more information.
With our recent inclement weather, it is highly possible that we will have late
starts in the future. Please remember that on late start days breakfast will not be
served, there will not be any AM kindie class and school will start at 10:10.
This month we kick off Make A Wish week, supporting Caleb from World
Compass in partnership with Douglas County High School. January 23rd is Blue
Day where we will all wear blue for the school wide assembly and get to meet
Caleb in person. January 22nd
-January 26th will be our Make A Wish Spirit week
where our goal is to raise $3,000 for Cory. Cory is 5 years old and his wish is to
go on a Marvel cruise. Check our new website for more details.
Thank you everyone for making Rock Ridge Elementary a great place to learn.
Have a wonderful month and stay warm.
Sincerely,
Peter Mosby
