Dear Rock Ridge Community:

Welcome to Colorado and our awesome, crazy weather. With that said, please remember that with our lightning protocol, we will not release students if lightning has been within a 6 mile radius inside of a 30 minute window. We will have a yellow flag on the flag pole to signal that we are currently following our lighting protocol. Should you wish to enter the building to retrieve your child you have that option. However, I would recommend waiting until we have deemed the area safe and begin releasing students.

Last year I began working directly with parents, district, and the city of Castle Rock, evaluating traffic patterns and crosswalks around the school area. We worked on increasing student safety awareness, safe pathways to and from school and monitoring specific areas of concern. Since that time, the City of Castle Rock has installed cross walks at key locations around the school, increasing local awareness to student traffic and making a student’s trip to and from school safer. Thank you, parents, Douglas County School District and the town of Castle Rock for making this happen!! In addition, Castle Rock Police Department has increased traffic monitoring around our school and has begun issuing citations for traffic violations and parking in handicap areas. Please remember to follow all traffic laws and respect the parking areas designated for our visitors who have special parking needs.

As you are all aware, hurricane Harvey had a devastating impact on portions of the Texas Gulf coast, especially Houston. We have families who are either originally from the Houston area and/or have family there. In support of the relief and recovery effort currently under way for the Houston area, Rock Ridge will be collecting new or gently used backpacks from the community. Please place any backpacks that you are able to donate in the donation boxes that will be located near the entry way of the school before September 15th. Thank you in advance for your support. Should you have any questions, concerns or celebrations, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Peter Mosby, Principal
