Dear Rock Ridge Community:

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving this past month. Thank you Rock Ridge community for your participation in the canned food drive, enabling us to share with ten families from our community and making sure that they had a wonderful holiday.

The Rock Ridge Archery club is doing great again this year in anticipation of the state tournament that starts in January. 4th and 5th graders have been practicing every Monday from 7:30am-8:30am in the gym and 6th-8th graders have been practicing after school from 3:30-4:30. Students are encouraged to join any time so if you are interested be sure to complete the archery permission slip and return to the front office. There is a $20 fee for supplies. Last year the 4th-5th grade team took 2nd overall in the state and also qualified for Nationals. In addition, our 6th grade team competed against 6th-8th graders and placed 3rd overall in the state. This year we expanded our team to include 7th and 8th graders from Mesa so we are hoping for a strong showing at the upcoming state tournament.

One celebration I wanted to share is an example of where Rock Ridge spends money to invest in our studentsfutures. Rock Ridge sponsors part of the cost for DC Downbeats, a program that promotes the development of instrumental music education for both Orchestra and Band. Along with the other DCHS feeder schools Rock Ridge helps pay for the instructor of the program. If your child is interested in learning an instrument, please visit the DC Downbeat Elementary Orchestra web page for more information.

To ensure the safety of our students and staff, the Castle Rock Police Department has increased traffic monitoring around our school. They have begun issuing citations for traffic violations and parking in handicap areas (several citations have been issued). Please remember to follow all traffic laws and respect the parking areas designated for our visitors who have special parking needs.

Should you have any questions, concerns or celebrations, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you and have a Merry Christmas.

Sincerely,
Peter Mosby, Principal
