5-6 Kathleen Smith

  Mrs. Smith

Welcome back to another exciting year at Rock Ridge Elementary. I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself to those who don’t know me. I am the Moderate Needs Teacher for 5th and 6th graders. This is my 19th year working at Rock Ridge Elementary, so you may have seen me around. I am starting my 31st year of working with students with unique learning needs; some of those years have been at middle and high school before coming to Rock Ridge. On a personal note, I live in Castle Rock with my husband Randy. My twin daughters Alexa and Brianne, both of whom are out of college, live and work in the Denver metro area.. I received my BA in Special Education at the University of Iowa-Iowa City. My MA in Special Education is from the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. I also have a multiple-subject credential from CA, which means I could teach regular education K-6, but I never have.

I look forward to meeting each of you and getting to know your student, or working with you again this year. I have already begun the process of reading IEPs and looking at needs, goals, and objectives written last year by the team. I collaborate weekly with the classroom teachers and will be in and out of the classroom. Some of the work your student and I do together will be in the classroom, especially working on the IB planner assignments; but most of the direct intensive academic work specified in their IEP will be in a smaller pull-out situation throughout the week.

Please know that you can get a hold of me best by email, I check it at least twice per day. If you want to talk with me please email me and I will find a time during the day that I am not scheduled to be working with kids. I look forward to a great school year!
