Hello! Welcome back to a new, exciting school year. My name is Scottie Martin and I am one of 4 Moderate Needs Teachers here at Rock Ridge. What’s a Moderate Needs Teacher? Well, to me it’s the most rewarding occupation in the world (next to being a mom). I get to fulfill my lifelong dream of working with students of varying needs and abilities. Everyday I have the opportunity to work with students in multiple grades and find out how they learn and what makes them unique. You can find me all over the school in various classrooms as well as working in my room with small groups to support student learning. I am so blessed to work with students who touch my heart every day.

I believe elementary school is an exciting journey. It’s a time where young students have the opportunity to develop and grow. School should be a positive experience where kids discover about friendships, learning, and possibilities.  Unfortunately, my memories of elementary school are not fond ones. School and learning were difficult for me at this age. My wish is that my students will want to come to school and that it will be a positive environment where they are known, supported to grow, and always encouraged to do their best.

This will be the start of my 14th year at Rock Ridge Elementary. I have worked in education for 27 years.  5 of those years were in the general education classroom as a classroom teacher.

I attended the University of California at Irvine where my B.A. is in Social Ecology with and emphasis in Criminology. After graduating, I attend Chapman University in Orange County. At Chapman, I earned my Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential. In 2000, I graduated with my M.A. in Special Education.

I grew up in Northern California in the Bay Area of California. In high school, I played volleyball competitively and earned an athletic scholarship to UC Irvine. When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, spending time with my kids and family, and being outdoors. I like to hike, play grass and sand volleyball, sit in tree stands while my family hunts, and spend time with our dogs, Teva and Moose. My family shoots archery and we can often be found on weekends shooting our compound bows at 3D targets in the woods!

I have 2 children. My son, Keegan, is a sophomore in college and attended Rock Ridge all the way through.  Sydney, my daughter, is in 12th grade and also attended Rock Ridge. There was no greater joy than going to school with my children every day. I am so blessed to have their presence near me while I work the job I was always meant to do.

If you have any questions, please know you can get a hold of me best by email at [email protected]. I check my email several times per day. I’d also be more than happy to speak with you. You can contact me by calling the school. I am looking forward to meeting your students and your families and I know that together, we will make this an unforgettable year!
